July 5th Ekipe Village - The Port Vila Independents faced the Ekipe Black Ants in the second inter-village baseball game in Vanuatu history. The game was played at Ekipe Primary School. The Independents were led by Peace Corps Vanuatu Country Director Kevin George, while The Black Ants was led by Peace Corps Volunteer Javier Alaniz, PCV Jeremiah Johnson officiated.
The Independents avenged their loss in Vila from a month ago with an impressive offensive display scoring 13 runs in the 5th inning.
The Black Ants scored 18 runs in the game, but the consistent offense of the Independents scored at least a run in every inning finishing with 27. The game lasted 7 innings.
The final tie breaking game in the three game series will be held at the public launching of the North Efate Primary School Sports Association (NEPSSA) at Manua school in Paonangisu on August 18th-20th. Schools interested in incorporating baseball into their sports curriculum are invited to attend, as well as the general public.
Baseball workshops will be held throughout 2008 and 2009 for Efate and surrounding islands.
Currently Vanuatu Baseball is focused on Primary School youth from year 5-8, we will be expanding to secondary schools and adult leagues based on the level of interest.
